Omar Al-Rubaie
MPhil Student
Omar is an intercalating medical student currently undertaking an MPhil in Medical Sciences (Psychiatry) under Prof. Simon Baron-Cohen and Dr. Alex Tsompanidis. He is working on a dedicated Autism Placenta Biobank which would be the first of its kind, allowing for a better understanding of how epigenetics impact the likelihood of Autism. He is also working under Dr. Elizabeth Weir on a project which seeks to get a better understanding of how an Autism diagnosis can impact cardiovascular health.
In 2024 Omar was elected the President of Sheffield medical society, which one of the largest in the country. Prior to this he sat on the British Medical Association's (BMA) medical students committee as the representative for his medical school and was a delegate to the BMA's annual representative meeting in 2023 and 2024.
