Arko Paul
Doctoral Scientist
Arko submitted his PhD thesis in 2021. He was studying the autistic brain using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) as a model system. He modelled neuronal development and gene pression in the autistic brain, with a particular interest in the effects of mutations in the SHANK3 gene.
Arko was co-supervised by Dr Deepak Srivastava, Director of the Centre for the Cellular Basis of Behaviour at King’s College London (KCL), Dr Mark Kotter at the Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine (LRM), Cambridge, and Professor Simon Baron-Cohen. His advisors included Dr Deep Adhya at KCL/ARC and Dr Jason Carroll at Cancer Research UK in Cambridge. He collaborated with KCL and with the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to coming to Cambridge he was Junior Research Fellow at the National Brain Research Centre in India, in the Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuroimaging Laboratory, Computational Neuroscience Division. He was also a Research Assistant in the Signal Transduction and Gene Regulation Laboratory, Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience Division, in the National Brain Research Centre, India.
He holds an MSc in Biochemistry and a BSc in Mathematics, Biochemistry and Zoology from the University of Calcutta. He is funded by the Cambridge Trust and the Autism Research Trust.
