Dr Chris Ashwin

Dr Chris Ashwin completed a BA (Honours) in Psychology at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge at the Autism Research Centre where his thesis was entitled ‘The Amygdala Theory of Autism’. His research involved 3 broad areas of investigation: fMRI studies of social-emotional processing in participants with and without autism; computer-based behavioural tasks of social-emotional information processing in autistic and neurotypical participants; and GSR measures during social-emotional perception. He is currently a Lecturer in Psychology and a member of the Cognition, Affective Science and Technology Labs research group at Bath, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). The broad area of research Chris pursues is Social Cognitive Neuroscience (e.g. face and gaze processing), and how these types of processes might be different in autism, schizophrenia, synaesthesia, and various anxiety disorders.
