Kirsty Macmillan

Kirsty was an undergraduate student studying for a BSc. Psychology (Applied) at Heriot-Watt University. Since 2009, Kirsty has worked with both autistic children and adults in Edinburgh and the Lothians, predominantly for the Lothian Autistic Society. Her roles included leading holiday playschemes for autistic children , providing respite to them and their families and working to help enable autistic children and adults to improve their access to mainstream facilities. Kirsty also volunteered at social clubs for children aged between 8 and 18 years with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome which have been set up to enable them to participate in group activities and enhance their communication skills and understanding.

In 2013, Kirsty was awarded the Carnegie Vacation Scholarship under the supervision of Dr Mary Stewart (Heriot-Watt University). Kirsty conducted her own project which examined emotional processing across the lifespan with regards to autistic traits. While at the ARC, Kirsty assisted on the ASC-Inclusion Project.
